(Reuters) – Derek Chauvin, the former Minneapolis police officer convicted this week of the murder and manslaughter in the death of George Floyd during an arrest last year, will be sentenced on June 16, the Minnesota Justice Department said on Friday.

Chauvin faces a combined 75-year sentence for second degree murder, third degree murder and manslaughter after he was found guilty Tuesday. Hennepin District Judge Peter Cahill will convict Chauvin.

In a separate lawsuit on Friday, Cahill ordered that the identifying information about the jury in the high profile case be sealed for at least 180 days.

In a taped confrontation in May 2020, the white chauvin clenched his knee for more than nine minutes on the back of the neck of Floyd, a handcuffed and vulnerable black man who was suspected of having a fake $ 20 bill of cigarettes buy, was arrested in a grocery store.

The most serious charge, second degree murder, carries a sentence of 12 1/2 years to 40 years, depending on the accused’s previous records and whether the judge believes the crime has aggravating factors.
