Facebook Launches New Audio Products By Reuters

(Reuters) Facebook Inc CEO Mark Zuckerberg said Monday the company had plans to launch multiple audio products and features for finding and playing podcasts. Tuckerberg said the world’s largest social media network has planned to roll out audio features in the coming months, including short-form audio clips called “Soundbites” and a way for users to discover and play podcasts.

The CEO also spoke about Facebook (NASDAQ 🙂 exploring live audio rooms in an interview on Discord with Casey Newton, editor of the Platformer newsletter. The rapid growth of the year-long app Clubhouse has shown the potential of audio chat services, especially as people stayed at home during the COVID-19 pandemic. Facebook is joining a number of social companies that announced audio capabilities in the past few months. Twitter Inc. (NYSE 🙂 is also testing its live audio function “Spaces”, which it claims should be available to all users by April.

As part of the announcements, Zuckerberg also said Facebook is partnering with Spotify (NYSE 🙂 technology to make it easier for musicians and listeners to share content.
