Images and videos of NASA’s Ingenuity helicopter flying on Mars

Here’s a look at the historic flight of a NASA aircraft on Mars, an accomplishment the space agency calls the “Wright Brothers Moment”.

NASA’s Perseverance rover took pictures of the flight after a short distance. One of his navigation cameras shows a sequence before, during and after the flight of the helicopter.

Ingenuity, weighing 4 pounds, successfully flew autonomously for 39 seconds.

NASA’s Perseverance rover captured the Ingenuity helicopter on the surface of Mars on April 18, 2021 before its first flight.

NASA announced after the flight that the area on Mars’ Jezero Crater where Ingenuity was flying will be known as Wright Brothers Field.

Scientists and engineers at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in California are collaborating with Ingenuity during development. This long-term process was supported by some experts from the agency for rotor dynamics.
