Some lawmakers are concerned that social security and other federal benefits recipients have not yet received the money they are entitled to.
Congressional Democrats, including Massachusetts Rep. Richard Neal, who chairs the House Ways and Means Committee, sent a letter to the IRS and the Social Security Administration on Monday calling for “immediate attention on this pressing matter.”
Other committee chairs who have signed the letter are John Larson Rep., D-Conn .; Bill Pascrell Jr., DN.J .; and Danny Davis, D-Ill.
According to lawmakers, delays in submitting business checks of $ 1,400 have been reported to Social Security, Additional Security Income, Railroad Retirement Board, and Veterans Affairs beneficiaries who typically fail to file tax returns.
“The American bailout plan should provide much-needed economic stimulus and support to people across the country – immediately – and we are counting on your agencies to ensure beneficiaries are not left behind in the seamless delivery of these payments,” the legislature wrote.
“Some of our most vulnerable seniors and people with disabilities, including veterans who have served our country with honor, cannot meet basic needs while waiting for their overdue payments,” they continued.

The IRS has not specified a schedule for these payments, according to the letter. Legislators asked both agencies to work out a schedule for the federal beneficiary to receive the money by Friday, March 26.
To date, the IRS has sent out about 90 million of the third stimulus checks, which run up to $ 1,400 per person, provided people are within certain income thresholds and meet other qualifications.
A second batch of these checks, valued at $ 1,400, is expected to arrive by Wednesday via direct deposit, while additional payments have also been sent through the mail as a check or prepaid debit card.
